since he wasn't there, how did he hear about it? are there any documents describing his initial reaction?How did douglas find about the house divided speech?
Would that be Stephan A. Douglas or Frederick Douglass? Both men were quite intelligent and could read so I would imagine they read about the speech in a newspaper.
