This is a quote Lincoln had said:



"A house divided against itself cannot stand." I believe this government cannot endure, permanently, half slave and half free. I do not expect the Union to be dissolved 鈥?I do not expect the house to fall 鈥?but I do expect it will cease to be divided.

Lear had three daughters of the royal house. Two were selfish and wished only to dilute his power and prestige and only one had his interests and those of the kingdom at heart. He acceded to the wishes of the disloyal ones and long ignored the loyalty of the one good daughter. Disaster ensued.
